Cherish (Covet 1.5) by Tracey Garvis-Graves #Review

Title: Cherish
Author: Tracey Garvis-Graves
Series: Covet #1.5
Novella length
Release Date: October 28, 2014

Synopsis:
Fans of Covet by New York Times bestselling author Tracey Garvis Graves will be delighted by this novella-length sequel.

When Daniel Rush wakes up in the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the head, the last person he expects to see at his bedside is his ex-wife Jessica. Their marriage disintegrated after the death of their infant son Gabriel, and Daniel gave Jessie what he thought she wanted: the freedom to start over with someone else. But Daniel never updated his emergency contact information, and Jessie is the one who receives the call with the devastating news.

Daniel was Jessie’s one true love. Together since college, Jessie had dreams of raising a family with Daniel, and growing old together. When Gabriel died, Jessie buried those dreams with her beloved son and shut everyone out, including Daniel.

Daniel faces months of grueling rehabilitation and he’s going to need some help. Jessie is the last person anyone expects to volunteer, but this is her one chance to make amends, giving her and Daniel a shot at getting things right this time.

The road to recovery will be long and arduous. But with Jessie leading the way, Daniel just might be able to get his old life back.

Daniel knows how to covet. But can Jessie help him remember how to cherish?

*Please note that this is a novella-length sequel. Reading Covet before Cherish is highly recommended in order to enhance your reading pleasure.

Five Stars

More of Daniel to Cherish!

After having read Covet, there was no doubt that I wanted and needed more of Daniel Rush’s story.

As you can tell from my rating that I LOVED Cherish! I loved that this was a second chance story for two people whose lives were ripped apart in the past when they experienced something so tragic. The process of recovery from his gunshot wound to the head is long and painful, but for Daniel having his ex by his side could very well be a blessing in disguise.

I liked Jessie! In the beginning she’s introduced at such a tense moment. Tracey Garvis-Graves writes her as a character with so much compassion. I loved how Jessie understands what Daniel needs, especially his emotional needs. In a way his recovery was therapeutic for her as well, and I appreciated that aspect of the story so much. I thought all the special moments for them were tender and well written.

I’m so glad Ms. Garvis-Graves continued their story. Although short and sweet, this novella was still fulfilling for me. If you were a fan of Daniel in Covet, you will definitely be a bigger fan of his after reading Cherish.

Cover Reveal ~ Heart Recaptured (Hades Hangmen #2) by Tillie Cole

HR ebook cover
Age group: Mature New Adult
Genre: MC dark contemporary romance
Release date: 2nd December 2014

SYNOPSIS
Even salvation can be delivered through the love of the damned…
Beauty can be a curse.
Faith can be a cage.
Only love can set you free.

A few long weeks after being reluctantly ripped from the comforting embrace of her sacred prophet’s religious commune—the only life she has ever known—a terrified Delilah is thrust into a world enveloped by evil and swimming in sin.

Steadfastly devout in her faith, and retaining the deep belief that her soul is innately tarnished as a branded ‘Cursed woman of Eve’, Delilah is determined to find her way home to her people in The Order and away from the corrupt and damned outlaw motorcycle club—The Hades Hangmen—who hold her at their secluded compound for her protection—a 'protection' she strongly resents.

Delilah yearns to return home, convinced that only amongst her own people, and under the holy guidance of the Lord’s revealed prophet, can her Satan-spawned soul be truly saved. Conditioned her entire life to believe she is a witch... a life-long temptress… the devil’s whore... Delilah increasingly resents her beautiful face, her shapely body and her sensuous effect on men. But when a man of the motorcycle club—a deeply sinful yet stunningly beautiful man—is charged with her care, Delilah begins to see that this dangerous and moralless sinner from the 'outside' may offer her something she did not know could truly exist: unconditional love.

Kyler ‘Ky’ Willis loves his life: a daily abundance of brotherhood, liquor, the freedom of the open-road and—best of all—his pick of hot women. Raised a biker brat and now VP of the most notorious MC in the States, Ky has no shortage of club sluts warming his bed; a situation he takes full advantage of… until a certain blonde enters his life… a gorgeous pilgrim-blonde he can’t get out of his head… a pilgrim-blonde he and his club recently-rescued from some backward religious cult… and a pilgrim-blonde he’s been ordered to keep the hell away from and his whorish hands off.

When yet another in a lengthy line of drunken blunders forces Ky to reluctantly take charge of the pilgrim-blonde’s care, he realizes that there could be more to this woman than just supermodel looks and a stacked set of tits. He begins to see that she could be the woman who could do the impossible—tame his wild ways and capture his reluctant heart.

But the unyielding bonds of Lilah’s past are strong, her ‘people’ determined and, with a new Prophet in charge and hell bent on revenge, they are mightily reluctant to let her go...

BLOCKED

By Jennifer Lane

New Adult Contemporary/Sports Romance

Released October 21, 2014

College freshman Lucia Ramirez has a secret crush on Dane Monroe. He’s a tall drink of water — blond, brash, and one hell of a volleyball player. Hijole. Lucia hopes her volleyball scholarship to his school will make him notice her.

Too bad what’s noticeable is Dane’s obvious hatred for Lucia. Her family’s politics contradict everything he stands for. And politics are front and center in both their families. Dane’s mother is about to face Lucia’s father in the race for US President.

When Secret Service throws them together, Dane can’t deny his frustrating attraction to Lucia’s athletic curves and sweet faith in the world. Amid the intense pressure of college athletics and presidential politics, can opposites not just attract, but overcome overwhelming odds to be together? Or do their differences block their match from the start?

Writing Blocked

Lucia opened the door. "They say not to discuss politics and religion on the first date."

“Well, then.” I gave her a huge smile. “We’re screwed.”

~*~

Has a political opinion on social media ever made your blood boil? Have you struggled to tolerate friends’ opposing political views? There’s a bitter political divide in many countries, including the US, and those polarized philosophies inspired the story of Blocked.

Heroine Lucia Ramirez and hero Dane Monroe view the world in opposite ways but are thrown together as their parents compete for the US presidency. Underhanded national politics are hardly the place for a trusting relationship to begin, but can love bridge the gap of mistrust and hatred?

The theme of forbidden love intrigues me. Lucia’s conservative father, the Republican nominee for US President, would be horrified to learn of his daughter’s crush on his liberal opponent’s son Dane. Dane and his mother, the Democratic nominee for US President, believe that harsh conservative ideals thwart the American dream.

One lesson from my psychology career is that perception is reality. Democrats see the world quite differently from Republicans, and both groups are hell-bent on proving they’re right. Dane wants equality for all. Lucia stands for individual responsibility. Which philosophy is better? Which will persevere in the next election?

Sometimes, political discussion becomes heated. It gets ugly. In contrast, I tried my hardest to present each viewpoint fairly in this story. Readers and editors from both sides of the aisle critiqued the manuscript, and one reason I self-published the novel was to preserve a delicate balance of political views between Dane and Lucia.

Despite their political differences, Lucia and Dane share one thing in common: volleyball. Both are scholarship volleyball players at a top university, vying to earn a spot on the US national team one day. In addition to swimming, I played volleyball at a small college, and my love for this sport bleeds onto the pages. To smash a perfectly set volleyball down the opponent’s throat? There’s nothing more satisfying. And the closeness of a team is one of life’s special pleasures, experienced by Lucia and Dane.

I hope you enjoy the political and sport elements in Blocked.  ~Jennifer Lane

Seventh Grave and No Body by Darynda Jones Blog Tour #7thGraveAudio #CharlieDavidson

Blurb:

Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there’s that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she’s ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.

A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.

We’re doomed.

Excerpt:

I took the interior stairs back to my office, refusing to spare another glance his way. Just as I put my plate on my desk, I noticed a priest waiting in Cookie’s office. He was wearing a jacket and jeans, but the collar gave it away every time. We’d apparently forgotten to lock the door, but in all my years as a PI, a priest was new. I felt like I should do the sign of the cross as I walked forward, but I could never remember if it was up-down-left- right or up-down-right-left. I was so bad with directions.
“I’m sorry,” I said, going over and holding out my hand. It was shaking even more now than it had been that morning. Shaking from too much coffee was one thing, but shaking from none at all? Utter agony. Torturous. Inhumane. Of course, Reyes and his new gal pal could have had something to do with my trembling. “I didn’t mean to leave anyone waiting here,” I continued. “I’m Charley.”
He stood and took my hand into his. He looked like one of those jolly priests who preached about hellfire and damnation but then qualified his sermon with an assurance that if his parishioners strayed, they need only repent to be washed of their sin. I’d tried to be washed of my sin once, but I ran out of Dial. Tricky business, that.
“I’m Father Glenn,” he said, his voice and manner full of exuberance. He had sandy hair, thinning up top, and wire- framed glasses fitted over chubby cheeks. “I didn’t mean to interrupt your lunch.” He gestured toward the lunch he could see through the adjoining door. It sat on my desk, calling my name. Metaphorically.
My stomach growled on cue. I offered a sheepish grin, then said, “Oh, no, I’m saving it for later. I’m not the least bit hungry.”
“Gutsy,” he said as I sat in the chair next to the one he’d been sitting in.
“Gutsy?”
He followed suit, crossing his legs to get comfortable. “Fibbing to a priest,” he explained.
“Oh, that.” I laughed and waved it off. “I do that kind of crap all the time. Except to my clients,” I assured him. “I don’t lie to my clients.”

Five Stars

Holy Hellhound!

The previous book ended with a surprise that had all fans chomping at the bit for this book. As indicated in the summary, Charley is now trying to be a responsible adult. There’s a good reason for this, and it makes for some truly funny moments when BFF Cookie tries to be “responsible” with Charley. Cookie is an awesome friend! That “Devil’s blood” scene cracked me up! Speaking of Cookie, I’m so glad she’s now paired up with someone and seems to be happy! Cookie and her man are so cute together!

Boy, did Charley have her work cut out for her in this installment. In addition to the hellhounds that are after her, she’s got to figure out what’s behind all those suicide victims. I found this storyline quite interesting! We get a little bit more understanding of the prophecy. Sounds like things are gearing up for something huge to happen in the next book! Reyes and Charley end up spending loads of time together, because Reyes feels like he should be around protecting her in case hellhounds show up. Charley is who she is, and I love her for that. Sometimes she’ll do something, and it will make Reyes mad. All I will say is that an angry Reyes is sexy! Just sayin’! These two continue to create lots of steam when alone, like the scene that I’ve dubbed as “Pleasure, Pain and Reyes Begging!” Holy hell!

There is no doubt that I adore this series! I love being in Charley and Reyes’ world. There is something in the way Darynda Jones writes these characters that keep me coming back for more. Each book thus far has kept me thoroughly entertained, and she continues to keep the surprises and twists coming for her readers. I want the next book now!

Fans of this series will enjoy this book. If you have not read this series, I also recommend reading the books in order.

Audiobook review:
The Charley Davidson series is one of my all time favorite series to listen to on audiobook. By now I’m used to the voices used for Charley, Reyes and the whole gang! I look forward to the next audiobook, because Lorelei King always does a superb job with her narration.
